Some Pics

Last Day in Town

Well, the weather has cooperated and we had a gorgeous day for going to the Statue of Liberty.

Interesting day. We walked to the bus, got the subway down to the end of Manhattan, walked over to Battery Park where you get the tickets. And we found a line of people that wound through the park. You would have thought God was giving personal audiences the line was so long. But we got in it like the good sheep we are. While we stood in line, we sent Aunt out as a scout to find out if this was actually the line for tickets for the Statue. She came back letting us know that the line for the tickets was elsewhere and she didn't know what this line was for. I went with Aunt and told Leslie and Josue to keep our place in this line just in case. Aunt and I stood in another line for 45 minutes, got the tickets, and found out that the line Josue and Leslie were in was the line you get into AFTER you get your tickets to actually go to the boats. So we did good! Leslie and Josue had moved 45 minutes worth in that line while we got the tickets. We had hot dogs from vendors for lunch while in line, spoke with the fun people around us and enjoyed the street entertainers. We went through the airport security set up that they have now and got on the boat. It was fun for Josue to go out and see the statue, but he said it was shorter and "chubbier" that he thought it would be. : )

After the statue, we got back on the subway and went uptown to the Empire State Building. 25 mile visibility, so it was a great day for that also. Airport-type security here also. Good thing we go to Disneyland a lot, because it trained us for waiting in lines. Aunt pointed out the sites and we took pictures.

The sidewalk was a zoo when we came back down just like it was in Times Square so we decided to go back to the neighborhood for dinner. Exhausted and having to pack for the plane tomorrow we called it a relatively early night.

Day Two - Fran

Day Two was our theatre day. We had a nice breakfast at the Barking Dog in the neighborhood, and got on the cross town bus to head out for Times Square. When we were in line at the half price ticket center, we discovered that in the morning they were only selling tickets for matinees. So we got out of line and headed down to Grand Central to show off the train station to Josue. We had lunch there also and checked out the very cool food market on the street level.

At 2 they were going to start selling tickets for night shows, so a little after two we were back at Times Square to get our tickets. Line wasn't bad, kind of like a busy day at Disneyland trying to get on Indiana Jones (a couple of hours). While in line, we remembered they only took cash. Aunt walked about 10 blocks (each way) to find a Citibank to get us cash while we waited in Line. Leslie also discovered that there was a marquee that showed what tickets were on sale. We were very disappointed that our first 3-4 choices were not on sale here but we did decide on Guys and Dolls and were very happy with the show. We went by the theatre to check it out and got to see some of the actors leaving from the matinee show and got pictures.

For dinner Aunt treated us to the Cafe Nicole at the Novotel. The view of Times Square from our table is shown above. Fun restaurant with good food. After dinner we walked back to the theatre and really enjoyed the show. Our tickets were fantastic 6th row mezzanine and we were had aisle seats so we all had lots of nice leg room.

Hey Jenn, we went to the ROXY for dessert after the show. Got back to the apts about 12:30 am and went to bed to try to get some rest for Day Three. Day Three is Statue of Liberty day!

Blog at cha tomorrow!

Day One - Leslie

Here we are in Central Park. We didn't walk around too much because we had a lunch date with Aunt Fran. The other picture was taken in Time Square on our way to dinner. We had a great view of everything going on on the streets while we enjoyed dinner. It started to rain, but we didn't let it stop us! The subway and buses came to our rescue to keep us going and out of the rain.'Posted by Leslie

BRRRR

Well, we had a fun day, but it was drizzly and colder than we expected.
Walked to the Guggenheim this morning, spent time in Central Park...
Met Aunt for lunch at a local diner and then headed to Times Square to
take a CitySights bus tour. Took us all around and had a good time. But
it was a relief to go to the Olive Garden in Times Square for dinner because
it was so nice and warm. mmmmm breadsticks!

We've arrived!

Plane arrived in NY 30 minutes early. NICE! The first night we met Janet & Rick Scott and Aunt for dinner at Dresner's. Delicious dinner. Then we took a walk and Leslie got hungry for dessert so we stopped at the Barking Dog for a banana split! Fun time.
